The Future Is Inovation And Design

Future Innovations Drawing Board

The idea of this page is to inform existing and potential new customers of product updates and new designs that we are currently working on. Precision Rods never sits still for to long, we are always looking for new materials and concepts that we can use in our own products. We don’t just design something then leave it at that, we are constantly researching methods, technologies and techniques that we can implement in not just our blanks but in our riggers and tag poles. The other aspect is one that is a bit more sinister, those companies and business that would rather steal and or copy rather than actually design and innovate.

This leaves Precision Rods no choice but to constantly improve which is a great thing for the customer, but this improvement also comes at great expense. The other positive thing Precision Rods do is we always spend the time to better educate the customer/angler so that in turn increases there enjoyment of the sport. Informed anglers also better understand what quality design and quality products are all about and how to discern the two. Yes it’s easy to spin what ever you want, but we can actually back it up and in most cases we don’t have to because our products sell themselves. That’s the difference between Precision Rods and the rest; we let our products speak for themselves.

Our New Roller guides

Precision Rods always seek to use the best of the best and while we currently use Aftco roller guides it must be said that they are well and truly due for an upgrade. Instead of waiting for someone else to do it Precision Rods is currently designing our own range of Roller guides. Seems insane and you may very well be right but with the new innovation in technology we have made the bold move to do our own. The huge advantage we have is our vast experience in game fishing and rod building. So combine the two and we will have a superior roller guide design. There are good quality roller guides available however they all have there week spots.

We intend to get rid of all those week points and design a roller guide that will perform flawless for many years.

We intend to eliminate seized roller guides from lack of maintenance, overheating from blistering runs, water intrusion from from leaving the rods in the covering boards, plus many other aspects which I wont say just yet. I’m sure you can understand that I can’t say anything on such a public forum on design or upload pictures but to say they will be miles ahead of anything you would have seen or used.

We are extremely excited about this step but not what it’s going to cost.

The drawings have been done and now they are in the hands of qualified CAD computer guy “I don’t know the term for him”.

He will re draw these roller guides in 3D and from there we can change and modify as we need. We have organised one of very few 3D printing machines in Australia. This technology will enables us to see a working prototype before they are actually made on a CNC lathe. 3D printing technology is fairly new and what’s even more exciting is these machines can print the roller guides with bearings, the main roller and screws all working.

We can actually bind these roller guides on a rod and load them up with line. The rollers will be printed up using a HDEP plastic co-polymer. We arent going into to this with the veiw to sell them on the open market but rather to design a roller guide that we can use with confidents. Australia is often looked at for tackle inovation and has been for over 30 years, we hope this will be one of those moments, Australian designed and made. We will keep you up to date as we proceed down this expensive path.

Time for a Whinge        "The China Syndrome"

Precision rods take considerable time, money and effort to come up with new products that in turn improves the anglers fishing experience. We then have companies or businesses that take our hard work and then copies the product “most times in China” then sell it as there own design. It happens all too much in Australia and while it’s incredibly frustrating we must continue on innovating and trying to stay a few steps ahead. These copy cat businesses are generally run by people that can’t think for themselves, they have no ability to come up with a concept and simply to lazy or unwilling to follow it through to fruition. No ability and certainly no credability but yet they keep doing it. Yes, it’s a pet hate of mine and in some cases I have been left with no choice but to take legal action againts them, I hate lawyers but they are a necessity.

I call it “The China Syndrome” where many think if you want to make more money and pay much less for production then you have to get your products made in China. Number one problem is they don’t acknowledge intellectual property so once you teach them what you know and how to do it you have then have signed over what has made you and your product unique. More and more businesses are going the way of China and at times they pay the price when a product fails the simplest quality checks. Having all our design and construction with in Australia we can better control the quality of all our products along with making small but essential improvements along the way.

The other aspect that we take great pride in is that we actually back up what we say, we actually run many tests to come up with the “why, how and when” so we can better improve on what we have and what we know. We have never accepted what is common knowledge or common opinions and myths. We have designed and built many test platforms over the years so we can better understand what dynamics are at play when a person is locked up on a fish. We have taken those results and then designed our blanks around those results. The end result is a rod that can fish much higher drag settings with out added load on the angler. In fact our rods are so much easier to use even at double the drag settings than most all other rods tested against.

It has also come to my attention that some Australian businesses have copied certain sections of our web site word for word and then used it on there own. Have things become that bad that these nits can’t even come up with there own advertising material?
