Aaron Concord journalist for Fishing & Boating Magazine, looked at what tackle is suitable for deep water jigging for the jigging enthusiast.
"Eddie Kazama with a approx. 18kg amber jack. This is the fish that put such a bend in his rod in the much talked about pics of Eddie we've used lately"
(Concord. 2005, p:34, Fisherman & Boatowner #98).
Aaron Concord has the following to say about Precision Rods - Marlin Master 60kg, and the Whopper Stopper and Enforcer:
"The largest billfish I have seen with my own eyes, which was accurately estimated at 1000lbs, was caught and subsequently released on a Precision Rods 60kg class rod. It didn't even puff. let alone break into a sweat. If there were any fish that would show up an imperfection in quality, it is these massive fish. Combined with the number caught, the rods performed flawlessly.
Stuart Mackenzie puts in a massive amount of time and effort building each rod, so not only do they look the part they perform it as well.
The Whopper Stopper is a solid 50 to 80lb braid rated spin stick, whereas the Enforcer is a true 130lb. These rods need no introduction, instead, the reliablility and durability of these products were surely appreciated during a heavy spin session with big poppers"
(2005, p:34, Fisherman & Boatower #111).
Captain Damon Olsen journalist and Charter boat operator.
"Damon and the crew were slinging huge surface poppers on souped-up, extra heavy custom spinning outfits for giant trevally that looked like nuclear submarines, except bigger and more powerful"
(Bannerot, p.53, Fisherman & Boatowner #103).

Plastic lure fishing requires a light weight comfortable rod for jigging with one hand. Aaron Concord and Geoffrey Seeto plastic canal capers in the Gold Coast estuaries help readers to narrow the search for the perfect rod.
"There are rods mad by G.Loomis, Strudwick, Gary Howard and Ian Miller, that will do the job, though, again, Precision Rod's Stuart Mackenzie has been making and designing rods more specific to our high strung needs. There isn't many light spin sticks built with 20 lb braid in mind, more importantly, the high drag pressures we are fishing with to stop the bigger Trevallies, Jacks and the like"
(Concord.A. p.38, Fisherman & Boatowner #102).
Captain Damon Olsen journalist and Charter boat operator.
"If you've always dream't of unearthing the booty at the bottom of your local canyon, give deep water jigging a whirl. Fraser Island charter operator Damon Olsen has the low-down on the gear....and the potential rewards" (Olsen, D.2004, Blue Water Boats & Sports fishing Oct/Nov. edn).
"A jig rod is used in an up-and-down fighting situation, which places a great deal more stress on the blank than many other fishing situations.... It also places more strain on the angler, thus a shorter rod is more suitable as a fighting tool. Other important features include a strong reel seat, and very solid guides and bindings. Using a high-modulus graphite rod in an up-and-down fight is often asking for trouble, which is why you may have to pay a fair bit for a quality rod. Consider Precision Rods in Australia"
(Olsen,D. 2004, Blue Water Boats & Sports fishing Oct/Nov. edn.).

Captain Damon Olsen operates Nomad Sports Fishing at Fraser Island in Queensland, and had this to say about his collaboration with Stuart:
".....when I first told Stuart Mackenzie at Precision Rods that I wanted a genuine 60 lb spin rod, he laughed at me. But he then accepted the challenge with relish. Our many discussions have resulted in a range of heavy spin rods, with the first two rated at 60 lbs and 100 lbs. The 100 lb spin rod is truly a work of art - a real fish-fightin weapon. It seems hard to believe that a spin rod capable of dead lifting 20kg (we tested it!) could still have any casting ability, but at 7ft 3in this rod can belt out a 180-gram popper over 90m into a 15kt breeze. You've really go to use this rod to believe it. I didn't think Stuart was going to make this rod in any way castable, but I must acknowledge him for creating such a remarkable tool"
(Olsen, D. 2004, Blue Water Boats & Sports Fishing June/July edn).
